After reaching level 15, you probably thought you were done with the unbridled chaos of newbies and scavs that is Ground Zero. Alas, elite gunsmith and nerd Mechanic thinks you have not suffered enough, and he sends you back to that God forsaken map once more.
The Shady Contractor quest in Escape From Tarkov is available once you reach level 15 and have completed Saving The Mole, Mechanic’s very first quest that also takes place on Ground Zero.
According to our dearest Sergey Arsenyevich, some of the answers to the TerraGroup mystery lie with OOO Knossos, a subcontractor that specializes in family entertainment venues like playgrounds and amusement parks.
Your task is to track down the personal vehicle of a Knossos manager in Ground Zero, and bring Mechanic any documentation you find there that could clear up the links between TerraGroup’s research and Knossos.
Finding the Knossos Manager Car in Ground Zero
‘Just find the car and get the stuff, merc. How hard can it be?’ When you read the quest description and how little specific information you’re given, it becomes clear that Mechanic hasn’t really left his rat hole since things went down in the Norvinsk region.
Between the streets, the underground section, and the TerraGroup garage, there are over a hundred cars scattered around the map, virtually ruling out brute-forcing it since you’ll either run out of raid time or catch a bullet or ten before you find anything useful.
The car you’re looking for is located along Norvinskaya Street, on the south side of the map. It is located right past the bend leading to the Nakatani extract, between the Fusion, Empire, and Capital Insight buildings.
The easiest way to spot the ersatz BMW is to look out for the ambulance in the middle of the road.
Your target is by the M auto showcase building, which is a nasty spot for picking up quest items. You’ll be right in the sights of the AGS-17 and perennial snipers in the second-floor window of Capital Insight.
If you’re approaching from the Nakatami side, you’ll have to just sprint through and hope nobody gets you, as there’s not much in the way of cover from that side.
Things are a little better from the north end. Even if you get the Emercom spawn on the far side of the map, you have decent cover so long as you keep to your right. The Skyside and Fusion buildings let you travel through them, and both have access to the underground section of the map, where you’ll find plenty of cover among the cars.
Once you’re topside, you can minimize your exposure to the Capital Insight devils by walking through the small parking lot behind the M showcase, and hitting the car up from the north.
Approach the abandoned black BMW from the driver’s side, and you’ll find the folder with OOO Knossos documents on the seat. Once you have that, book it for the extract and deliver the item to Mechanic to complete the Shady Contractor quest.
