Hollow Knight: Silksong: How & Where to Get Every Map

Hollow Knight: Silksong: How & Where to Get Every Map
Hollow Knight: Silksong: How & Where to Get Every Map

Sure, being lost sometimes in Hollow Knight: Silksong is part of the experience, but who doesn’t love the moment where you finally get a map to keep your exploration organized, right?

Obtaining a map and actually using it correctly is not a simple task in this game, though, requiring you to always find a specific NPC (or spot) to unlock it and also understand how some complementary mapping tools work.

That is why we have the perfect guide to finding yourself inside the complex level design of Pharloom, whether you are a veteran who simply wants to go straight to your objective or a confused newcomer to the Hollow Knight world.

How to Get a Map in Hollow Knight: Silksong

There are basically two ways to obtain a map of Hollow Knight: Silksong, and they depend on the region you are in.

If you are in the lower regions of Pharloom (outside the Citadel, such as Deep Docks, Greymoor, and Sinner’s Road), you must find Shakra, a fighter who also has mastery of cartography. She is the one who sells charts and mapping tools for you in exchange for a good amount of Rosaries – similar to Cornifer, from Hollow Knight. You can find hints of her location by hearing her chant or finding scattered golden rings on the floor.

Alongside the coveted maps, Shakra also offers useful (and pretty essential, I might add) items, so here’s a quick description of her entire stock. You should get them all as soon as you can, by the way.

  • 14 Pharloom Maps: self-explanatory;
  • Quill: It allows Hornet to mark every location she has been to at Bench points;
  • Compass: Displays Hornet’s current position on the map, and it needs to be equipped as a Yellow Tool;
  • Pins: Mark the locations of something specific, such as Benches, fast-travel points, and merchants;
  • Markers: Personalized pins that the players create on the map.

With that in mind, Shakra is the answer to your problem in regions outside the Citadel (there are a few exceptions, such as The Slab and Putrified Ducts, where the maps are on the floor to be found). However, there is always the risk of not having enough Rosaries to buy yourself a map, leading to her disappearance – and I know how frustrating that can be (jump to the next section to know what to do in that case).

Now, if you are in a region within the Citadel, such as Choral Chambers, High Halls, and Cogwork Core, you must find a machine to buy a map, which almost follows the same logic as Shakra (with the only difference being that the machine cannot disappear).

In any case, we have listed the locations where maps for each region can be found to make things easier for you. Check all of them right below:

Where To Get the Bone Bottom, Moss Grotto & The Marrow Maps

Your first encounter with Shakra is probably going to happen in The Marrow, and you can buy three maps with it right away: Bone Bottom, Moss Grotto, and The Marrow (obviously). Hard to miss, but her location is circled on the image above.

Where To Get the Deep Docks Map

Shakra is waiting for you in the area right next to the Bellway, with the Deep Docks Map for 50 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Far Fields Map

Shakra is hidden in a cave at the bottom of the main, vertical area of Far Fields, offering the map for 50 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Greymoor Map

Shakra is in the eastern part of the area, to the east of the exit to Far Fields, with the map for 70 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Bellhart & Shellwood Maps

When you first reach Bellhart, the place is in complete chaos, so you must buy the map of the nearby region: Shellwood. Shakra is waiting for you in the corridor right beneath the Greyroot’s hut. Bellhart’s map costs 40 Rosaries, and Shellwood’s costs 70 Rosaries (damn inflation).

Where To Get the Blasted Steps Map

Shakra can be found in the eastern part of the Blasted Steps, in an area that is basically a dead-end, with the map for 70 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Wormways Map

Shakra is resting in the central area of the Wormways (I recommend you reach this region by the top entrance to find her faster) for 70 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Hunter’s March Map

Shakra is resting on the eastern side of the Hunter’s March, near the exit to the Deep Docks, with the map for 70 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Verdania Map

You can find the map near a corpse in the bottom right of Verdania for free.

Where To Get the Sinner’s Road Map

Shakra is resting in the left area of the chamber where you first meet the Green Prince, right next to the broken Bench that needs to be fixed.

Where To Get the Map of The Slab

You can find the map on a corpse inside a cell on the east side of the prison. In order to get there, you must be caught by one of the cage bugs or find the Apostate Key at the bottom of the Putrified Ducts.

Where To Get the Mount Fay Map

After unlocking the Clawline ability, you are ready to explore Mount Fay, and you find Shakra on your way to the top, on the left side of the region. The map costs 40 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Sands of Karak Map

Another place that requires the Clawline ability to be accessed is the Sands of Karak, where Shakra is resting in a small room connected to the central area of the region, and offering the map for 90 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Bilewater Map

Shakra is waiting for you in a small cave near the central room of Bilewater (and on the northeast of the Bellway, an area that requires the Faydown Cloak ability to be accessed).

Where To Get the Putrified Ducts Map

You can find the map inside a room just south of the main Bench of the Putrified Ducts for free.

Where To Get the Weavenest Atla Map

You can find the map on the top right side of the Weavenest. Break the two glowing orbs, and, while going back to the exit, you must inspect the glowing device.

Where To Get the Grand Gate Map

The map machine is located in the central part of the Grand Gate area and requires 40 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Underworks Map

The map is located inside a small room just above the first Bench area. It is pinned on a board, so no cost for this one.

Where To Get the Choral Chambers Map

The map machine is located in the area to the east side of the Grand Bellway (and its Bench) and requires 70 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Whiteward Map

The map machine is located inside a small chamber right below the Bench (there is only one in this region) and requires 70 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Cogwork Core Map

You can find the map in a hidden area right above the temporary Bench (in the same room, actually). Step on the button on the floor to make it appear for free.

Where To Get the High Halls Map

The map machine is located inside a chamber on the bottom left of the High Halls and requires 70 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Whispering Vaults Map

The map machine is located on the top of the Whispering Vaults and requires 70 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Memorium Map

The map machine is located on the bottom right side of the Memorium and requires 70 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Map of The Cradle

The map machine is located in a hole in the wall on your way up the Cradle. It costs 70 Rosaries.

Where To Get the Map of The Abyss

On your way down The Abyss, you can find the map right above the Bench (there is only one in this region). Simply go up and interact with the glowing device.

How To Buy a Map If You Missed Shakra

If you were exploring a brand-new region and did not buy a map of Shakra because you did not have enough Rosaries when you found her, do not panic! There is a way to recover, but it requires a bit of luck and patience.

Basically, there is a chance (although we do not have the exact percentage) that she will spawn in one of her resting camps – a single stick with a golden ring on top indicates these ones.

The first one is on the right side of Bone Bottom, just before the entrance to The Marrow and above the Wish Well. Look up to find an upper platform with her stick, and it is there. This is her main camp in Act 1 – so, if you have not reached Act 2, she can spawn only here.

And the second one is located in an alcove in Bellhart. You need to go up, using the platforms on the left, and then cross to the other side to find it (it’s the image above). This is her main camp in Act 2 – so, if you have completed Act 1, she can spawn only here.

With that in mind, this is how her spawning works: after missing Shakra, visit the camp corresponding to the Act you are playing to try to find her stick. If it is there, all you need to do now is strike the golden ring on the platform to “summon” her. She will arrive with every item you have not bought from her yet, including your missing map.

If she is not appearing at the camp, that means you are out of luck, but simply leave the area and enter it again to try to make her spawn (you can also try resting on a Bench).
