In just about every pantheon or system of belief, gods, deities, and figures of worship generally have one thing in common: they all like getting stuff. Hey, who doesn’t?

The Greek gods in particular, flighty as they are, particularly enjoy the occasional offering, and are more than willing to slip a cosmic favor or two your way if your present pleases. This, I assume, is why gift-giving is a consistent component of Hades 2’s overall gameplay loop.

As with the original Hades, Hades 2 has a particular subcategory of collectible items known as “Indulgences,” though we’ll just call them gifts for short. Gifts can be given to the various NPCs you encounter both during and between your runs, godly or mortal, to unlock useful items, forward the game’s overall meta-progression, and just learn a little bit more about these interesting folks.

While some of these gifts are fairly easy to track down, the fancier stuff will require a bit of legwork and crafting. You know what they say, the quality of a gift you give can say more about your intentions than the gift itself.

Spoilers for Hades 2 ahead!

How To Find And Use Nectar

How to Unlock

Unlocked by default

How to Obtain

Clearing encounters, purchase from Broker (30 bones), Alchemy (1 Golden Apple, 1 Star Dust)

Ah, Nectar, the, er, nectar of the gods. Everyone likes it, everyone wants it, and barring certain circumstances usually related to meta-progression, everyone will happily accept a bottle from Melinoe when she offers one. Just like in the first game, gifting bottles of Nectar to NPCs is the basic means of raising your affinity with them, which can open the way to new features and meta-progression as well as allow you to offer more elaborate gifts.

Nectar appears semi-regularly during runs as a potential reward for clearing encounters, and you may also be awarded some when completing certain tasks on the Fated List of Minor Prophecies. Besides that, if you perform the incantation Kinship Fortune for 60 bones, the Wretched Broker will start selling Nectar for 30 bones a pop. However, it’s considered an exotic good, so he can only stock one bottle for sale per night. Don’t forget to grab one before you take off on a run!

You can even brew your own Nectar in the cauldron via the Alchemy procedure. It costs 1 Golden Apple from defeating Eris and 1 Star Dust from Chaos Trials and takes 8 Whiles to brew, but it yields six whole bottles, so it’s a decent investment if you need some in a hurry. You’ll need to talk to Aphrodite once after beating Eris to get the recipe, though.

How To Find And Use Bath Salts

How to Unlock

Perform incantation Rite of Vapor-Cleansing (2 Nightshade, 2 Lotus, 2 Molly)

How to Obtain

Purchase from Broker (50 bones), dig spots with Silver Spade Level 2

In all my life, I’ve yet to meet someone who doesn’t appreciate a lengthy soak in a hot tub or hot spring. It’s relaxing and good for your circulation. You can invite friends for some quality time in the tub in the Crossroads, though obviously, you’ll have to build it first, then get a stock of Bath Salts.

Before you can give anyone Bath Salts, you’ll need to open up the Crossroads Hot Spring by performing the incantation Rite of Vapor-Cleansing. This incantation requires 2 Nightshade, 2 Lotus, and 2 Molly. Nightshade can be grown from seeds found in Erebus, while Lotus and Molly can be picked by hand from Oceanus and Erebus, respectively.

After performing the incantation and opening the hot spring, you’ll get your first bottle of Bath Salts for free, and the Wretched Broker will begin stocking them one per night for 50 bones a pop. If you upgrade your Silver Spade, you may also randomly find Bath Salts in dig spots in any region.

Bath Salts can be given to most NPCs in the Crossroads to invite them for a soak. However, they’ll only go with you if you’ve given them enough Nectars and other gifts to raise their affinity high enough. If they’re not ready, they’ll decline and give the Bath Salts back to you. If they accept, you’ll get a little cutscene, and as an added perk, pass 12 Whiles.

How To Find And Use Twin Lures

How to Unlock

Perform incantation Rite of River-Fording (2 Cattail, 4 Driftwood)

How to Obtain

Purchase from Broker (100 bones)

Wishin’ you were fishin’? So do the residents of the Crossroads, apparently. Another subset of bonding gifts you can give are Twin Lures, which allow you and a friend to take a quick fishing trip together.

To get Twin Lures, you’ll first need to open the Crossroads Fishing Pier. You can make this happen by performing the incantation Rite of River-Fording for 2 Cattail and 4 Driftwood.

Cattails can be grown from seeds found in Oceanus, while Driftwood can be gathered by hand in the Rift of Thessaly. Perform the incantation, and you’ll get your first Twin Lures for free, with further ones available from the Wretched Broker for 100 bones once per night.

As with Bath Salts, NPCs in the Crossroads will only accept Twin Lures if you’ve raised their affinity high enough with Nectar. Going on a fishing trip will also pass 16 Whiles.

How To Find And Use Ambrosia

How to Unlock

Perform incantation Rite of Social Solidarity (2 Nectar, 2 Garlic)

How to Obtain

Purchase from Broker (500 bones), Alchemy (1 Myrtle, 1 Golden Apple, 1 Iris, 1 Star Dust)

If Nectar is everyone’s favorite brand of craft beer, then Ambrosia is the finest vintage wine. Ambrosia was also a giftable in the previous Hades, but it works differently in Hades 2.

To start getting Ambrosia, you’ll first need to reopen the Crossroads Taverna with the incantation Rite of Social Solidarity. This one costs 2 Nectar and 2 Garlic. You already know where you can get Nectar, while Garlic can be grown from Garlic Cloves dug up in Ephyra. Open up the Taverna, and your first bottle of Ambrosia is on the house, with additional bottles available for sale once per night for a steep 500 bones.

You can also brew your own Ambrosia via Alchemy for 1 Myrtle, 1 Golden Apple, 1 Iris, and 1 Star Dust, but you can only get the recipe for that by talking to Demeter after getting the game’s true ending.

You know the drill at this point; if a Crossroads NPC’s affinity is high enough, they’ll accept an Ambrosia and join you at the Taverna for a drink. If not, give ‘em more Nectar, Bath Salts, or Twin Lures. Going for a drink will also pass 20 Whiles.

How To Find And Use Witch’s Delights

How to Unlock

Perform incantation Faith of Familiar Spirits (1 Lotus, 2 Nectar)

How to Obtain

Perform incantation Bravery of Familiar Spirits (1 Wool, 3 Wheat), Alchemy (1 Nectar, 1 Star Dust)

Not all gifts are meant to be given to gods and mortals. Some are a little humbler in purpose; Witch’s Delights, for instance, are intended for your various unlockable Animal Familiars. You’ll need one Witch’s Delight to recruit an Animal Familiar, and additional ones to upgrade their abilities.

To unlock both Witch’s Delights and the Familiar system in general, you’ll need to perform the incantation Faith of Familiar Spirits, which costs 1 Lotus from Oceanus and 2 bottles of Nectar.

The initial incantation will give you three Witch’s Delights to distribute, while another batch will be given from the incantation Bravery of Familiar Spirits, which costs 1 Wool from Polyphemus and 3 Wheat grown from Wheat Seeds found in the Fields of Mourning.

You can’t buy Witch’s Delights, unfortunately, but you can make more using the Alchemy procedure Beast-Loved Morsel, which costs 1 Nectar and 1 Star Dust.

How To Find And Use Obol Points

How to Unlock

Spend 1,000 total Gold Crowns in Charon’s Shops

How to Obtain

Given automatically for every 1,000 Gold Crowns spent, purchase in Tartarus for 600 Gold Crowns

The Stygian Boatman Charon is, above all else, a savvy businessman. He knows one of the best ways to encourage repeat business is to set up a rewards system for loyal customers. Thus, he has established the Obol Points loyalty program.

Obol Points are little black cards that Charon will reward you with for making consistent purchases during your runs. He’ll give you your first gold card after you’ve spent a cumulative 1,000 coins with him, and automatically give you another one for each subsequent 1,000 coins you spend.

Additionally, there may occasionally be Obol Point cards available for purchase for 600 coins in the last shop of Tartarus, right before you fight Chronos.

Obol Points can be used in the drop box next to the Wretched Broker in the Crossroads to special-order useful materials like Ashes, Psyche, Fate Fabric, and Nightmares. Just drop the requisite cards in the box, wait the requisite Whiles, and Charon will deliver your order next time you return to the Crossroads. Just a heads-up, you need 1 Obol Point card to unlock the Aspect of Charon on the Moonstone Axe, so don’t spend them all at once.

How To Find And Use Kudos

How to Unlock

Give Dora 1 Nectar, obtain 40 cumulative meta upgrades, perform incantation Earthly Fortune (100 bones)

How to Obtain

Trade ingredients, gifts, or plants to the Broker

As nice as fancy gifts can be, sometimes a simple acknowledgment of one’s hard work can really mean the world. It certainly helps if said acknowledgments can also be used as a tangible currency to unlock cool cosmetics. Such is the case with the Kudos of the dead.

Kudos are a special gift currency used to unlock cosmetics for the Crossroads late in the game. Before you can start receiving them, you’ll need to complete a sidequest involving your shade friend, Dora. You’ll need to give Dora at least one Nectar, as well as obtain a cumulative 40 meta upgrades (incantations, aspects, keepsakes, etc.).

When you’re far enough, Dora will have a particular chat with you that unlocks the incantation Earthly Fortune, which costs 100 bones. When performed, this incantation will let you trade miscellaneous items to the Broker in exchange for Kudos.

Talk to Dora again the following night, and you can start giving her Kudos in exchange for new cosmetics. If you’ve unlocked the Music Maker NPC, you can also pay them Kudos to unlock BGM tracks.

Character-Specific Indulgences

Tears, Vaporized

Perform incantation Essence of Sorrow (1 Tear)

Ectoplasmic Draught

Perform incantation Night Life for the Dead (2 Shaderot, 1 Shadow)

Dream Vapors

Perform incantation End to Deepest Slumber (1 Molly, 2 Mandrake Root, 3 Poppy)

It’s a little uncouth to ask people for specific gifts, but sometimes, there’s only one thing your heart truly desires, and nothing else will do. In Hades 2, there are a small handful of gifts that only appear as you progress certain character-specific sidequests, and can only be given to them to continue those sidequests.

The first unique gift is Tears, Vaporized, an exclusive gift for Medea. After she requests it, you can get one by performing the incantation Essence of Sorrow in exchange for 1 Tear from Infernal Cerberus. After giving this gift, you can begin building her affinity normally.

Secondly, we have Ectoplasmic Draught, a little something-something for Icarus. To unlock his final affinity rank, you’ll need to perform the incantation Night Life for the Dead, which costs 2 Shaderot and 1 Shadow. Shaderot can be gathered by hand in Tartarus, while Shadow will need to be created via Alchemy for 30 Ashes, 30 Psyche, and 3 Fate Fabric, as well as left to cook for 12 Whiles.

The final unique gift is Dream Vapors for our sleepy friend Hypnos. You can perform the necessary incantation, End to Deepest Slumber, after you’ve given Hypnos at least 2 Nectar and grown 1 Poppy from Poppy Seeds found in Tartarus. To perform the incantation, you’ll need 1 Molly from Erebus, 2 Mandrake Root grown from Mandrake Seeds from the Rift of Thessaly, and 3 Poppy.
