New Witch Hat Atelier trailer confirms April 2026 premiere

BUG FILMS announced Tuesday, Nov. 18 that Witch Hat Atelier will premiere in April 2026 and released a new teaser trailer for the anime series on its official website, along with a confirmation of the core cast and some new key visuals. Outside of Japan, Crunchyroll will stream episodes of the series.

Based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kamome Shirahama, Witch Hat Atelier follows a young girl named Coco who dreams of being a witch in a world where magic is rooted in everyday life, but you have to be born with magic to become a witch (or so the public is told).

The trailer shows a listless Coco going about everyday life doing chores in a rural setting. But after she observes the traveling witch Qifrey perform magic by drawing a sigil, she discovers the “absolute secret that must never be known.” By replicating the same sigil, she triggers an explosion of magical energy in her home and is saved by Qifrey at the last second. This sets her on a dangerous path that leads to her becoming Qifrey’s apprentice. “This is the story of children who encounter despair, yet reach out toward hope,” reads a tag toward the end of the trailer. In the final shot, Coco is crowned with her very own pointed witch hat.

Rena Motomura (Betrothed to My Sister’s Ex) and Natsuki Hanae (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) will star as Coco and Qifrey. Ayumu Watanabe (Summer Time Rendering) serves as director with character designs by Kairi Unabara (The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife) and music by Elden Ring composer Yuka Kitamura.

“Turning each page brought back memories of my childhood’s small daily events and the longing I felt for my dreams,” Motomura said in a Crunchyroll blog post. “The magical world depicted by Kamome Shirahama-sensei has been brought to life as the ultimate anime.”

“I am honored to portray Qifrey, an important character whose gentle gaze carries a hint of melancholy and who possesses a mysterious atmosphere,” said Hanae in the same post. “The fantastical and beautiful world envisioned by Shirahama-sensei has become a stunning animation under Director Watanabe’s direction.”
