Massive complex RPGs are pretty famous for having huge and oftentimes confusing maps, and naturally, Where Winds Meet is no different. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you’ll spend most of your time simply running or riding horseback across this vast expanse, heading to objectives or getting lost in the myriad little side tasks available.
Luckily for us, however, Where Winds Meet has a massive amount of travel options available, and if you check the Lightness Skill, you’ll see just how many tools you have at your disposal.

Soaring through the skies!
So let’s take a look at everything Lightness has to offer, and soon you’ll be flying… literally!
The Basics of Lightness
Movement
Before we get into the whole flying malarky, it’s best that we cover the simpler options that the Lightness Skill provides. Every time you act in the air, it is basically part of the Lightness Skill. You cannot upgrade these abilities, unlike the Mystic Skills, as they are simply part of your character’s knowledge.
- Threefold Skywalk: This allows you to jump up to 3 times at once.
- Skywalk Dash: At any point during your 3 jumps, you can dash to gain some horizontal momentum.
- Mighty Drop: This is a sort of Ground-pound ability that allows you to break through stone and wooden boards covering holes in the floor.
- Safe Mighty Drop: This is similar to the last, but is used much higher up in the air, allowing you to return to the ground safely, without spraining yourself. Without using this, you’ll injure yourself from the fall and have to head to a clinic to heal.

Abyss Dive
There isn’t a lot to go through here, but you’ll learn a good amount about diving when you complete the Blind to the World Quest in Qinghe.
Simply put, you can descend into the water and ascend back to the surface. You can also gain a small boost of speed by using the assigned sprint button. You have an oxygen metre, so make sure you don’t spend too much time beneath the surface.
Enemies like Crocodiles will attack you beneath the surface, so if you’re panicking, simply look for a beam of light. That indicates a hole through which you can resurface.
Wall Run
These next two techniques can’t be found as easily as the others; in fact, you’ll have to go quite far out of your way to pick these up. I didn’t know about this until a good while, and it’s not exactly obvious either. First, let’s take a look at the skills.
- Swiftstride: This will allow you to run while you’re moving vertically up a wall.
- Shadowdash: This one can be used to sprint even while moving through a thick crowd.
Now, to unlock these two, you need to complete a bunch of Oddity events. If you don’t know what an oddity is, then check out our guide below. In simple terms, you can wander over to the little butterfly symbol on your map to complete a quick event and grab yourself an oddity, like a mantis or beehive.
Where Winds Meet: Full Qinghe Oddity Guide
Seen a sparkle? Time to hunt!
Head over to the Oddity collector, who can be found a short distance east of the General’s Shrine, and you can submit these items for small buffs, and eventually the 2 wall run skills. In total, you will need 45 oddities to unlock both of these abilities.
Learning to Fly
Afterglow Quest
Before you even think about flying around the map at lightspeed, first off, you’re going to have to complete a short quest. Don’t worry, this doesn’t take long, but it’s one of a few things you need. You’ll find this quest as one of the 8 main Quests in the Qinghe part of the Jianghu Legacy. Afterglow is number 5.
To start, head over to the small body of water just west of the Porcelain Kiln Boundary stone. Here you will find a fisherman. Interact with him, and he will talk about the Meteor Flight skill. Afterward, he will zoom off, and you’ll have to look for him.
Qiu can be found on the water’s edge just northwest of Still Shore. He will challenge you to complete a short challenge, wherein you’ll have to jump from pot to pot to reach a boat floating out on the water, without falling in, of course.
Even if you fall in, you won’t fail the challenge. The game will simply place you on the previous pot you jumped on.
Use your single, double, triple jump, and dash abilities to navigate the floating pots. Even if you don’t land exactly centered, the game allows for some leeway, automatically centering you.
Next, talk to the fisherman again, and he will teach you the flight skill. Hold the jump button to initiate this ability, and watch the small semicircular bar at the bottom of the screen. When it reaches each little node, press jump again, and the flight sequence will continue. Good job! Skill learnt… if only it were that easy!
Afterglow Pendant
While now, you might understand how to use the Meteor Flight, you can’t actually make use of it until you return the Afterglow Pendant. This pendant can’t simply be found lying around the world; instead, you need to earn a total of 4000 exploration points to grab it from the in-game menu shown above.
Exploration points can be earned from pretty much everything in the game, but here are the ones that you’ll want to do first:
- When finding a new map, firstly, open up all the Boundary Stones for a bunch of exploration points and access to quick teleports.
- Complete mainline quests and side quests
- Open up treasure chests scattered around the world
- Complete oddity events
- Complete Meow Meow challenges
- Partake in mini-games and contests
Basically, everything will grant points, and by the time you get to this point in the game, you should already have quite a few. Even past 4000, you can earn more skills, like the Fan glider flight ability at 6000 points and the Wind Glider at 9000. Keep exploring, adventurers!
Once you claim the pendant, you can return to Qiu and offer it to him. You’ll receive a good few rewards and the ability to use the flight abilities anytime you want in Qinghe. Of course, if you want to fly in Kaifeng, that’s another matter entirely!
