Rising Storm 2's Most Popular Mod Gets Its Own Steam Page

The release of Rising Storm 2: Vietnam back in 2017 sent shockwaves through the gaming world, and for a little while, it looked like Antimatter Games had an all-time classic in its hands. As we know now, Rising Storm 2 would never reach its full potential and the studio would collapse, but that’s not a fitting ending for a game this good.

A team of modders has been hard at work to get the most out of Rising Storm 2, and that has since culminated in the mod getting its own Steam page.

No Pasarán: The Best Call Of Duty Becomes A Spanish Civil War Game

This full conversion mod transforms Call of Duty: World at War.

The total conversion mod is called Black Orchestra: Worldfront 37-54, and it aims to ‘create the ultimate version of previous RO/RS titles’, while also putting plenty of work into adding new content. The mod is being developed by the aptly-named Black Orchestra Team.

How Black Orchestra Revived Rising Storm 2

After a turbulent period marked by a series of takeovers, Antimatter Games met its untimely end in 2023. The studio closure was a black day for shooter fans, as it marked the end of the development of multiple titles.

While Cold War shooter ’83 would eventually escape the jaws of death and secure a 2026 release date, it was curtains for spy thriller IGI Origins, and for Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, which had already been on life support as the studio gasped for air.

The community, however, was not about to let a prestigious lineage dating back to Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 die such an unceremonious death.

The Black Orchestra mod brings the old theatres introduced with Red Orchestra, Red Orchestra 2, and Rising Storm into the modernized base of Rising Storm 2: Vietnam.

Black Orchestra released a beta version in October, which is currently on version 1.3, updated last week.

The current version of Black Orchestra takes the fight from the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937 all the way to the end of the Second World War. The mod is one of the few to honor the often-forgotten Free French and nationalist Chinese forces that fought against the Axis powers.

Black Orchestra […] aims to ‘create the ultimate version of previous RO/RS titles’

Considering the name of the mod is Worldfront 37-54, and the game it is based on is set in Vietnam, it is likely that Black Orchestra will eventually visit the First Indochina War between the Viet Minh and the French Union forces.

That war raged from 1949 until 1954, with a dramatic climax at the Battle of Điện Biên Phủ. Although French director Pierre Schoendoerferr did a magnificent job taking the First Indochina War to the silver screen, games have not fared as well.

The most prominent shooter to tackle that conflict was 7554, an ambitious Vietnamese production released in 2011 that had a lot of heart but was lacking in polish.

While waiting for its Steam release, you can currently download the Black Orchestra beta from ModDB. You need to own Rising Storm 2: Vietnam to install it. The base game is currently on sale for $1.24 on Steam, at a 95% discount.
