Tencent And Ubisoft Complete Deal For Far Cry And Other Major Works

Earlier this year, the news broke that Tencent is investing $1.25 billion for a stake in the new Ubisoft studio, Vantage Studios.

The team, which got off to a rocky start when Assassin’s Creed boss Marc-Alexis Côté left Ubisoft to “pursue a new path elsewhere,” is led by Charlie Guillemot and Cristophe Derennes.

They will be focusing on three key Ubisoft franchises:

  • Assassin’s Creed
  • Far Cry
  • Rainbow Six

Ubisoft Is Betting The House On Three Popular Games Amidst Financial Crisis

Shorter content may be part of the game plan for Ubisoft’s new Tencent-backed subsidiary.

Today marks the completion of Tencent’s investment, making the deal officially official. Vantage Studio has been fully operational since October 1st, 2025.

“Tencent is delighted to be building on our strong relationship with Ubisoft through this investment in the launch of Vantage Studios,” said Martin Lau, President of Tencent. “With its capable team and world-class creative vision, we look forward to Vantage Studios accelerating the growth of Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six as evergreen platforms providing entertainment and inspiration to generations of players.”

Ubisoft’s CEO Hints That Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry May Become Annual Franchises

Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft, added that this agreement “brings our Creative Houses model to life with the ambition to accelerate the growth of our flagship franchises on their path to becoming annual billion-euro brands.”

That last comment is the most interesting: annual brands. Assassin’s Creed games were released annually, starting in 2009 with Assassin’s Creed 2, until Assassin’s Creed Syndicate in 2015. It was at that point that Ubisoft made the decision to give Assassin’s Creed some time off, though it wasn’t for very long; Origins was released in 2017, followed by Odyssey in 2018.

It appears that the two-to-three-year timeline for Assassin’s Creed is over. There were rumors last year that Assassin’s Creed games would release every six months, and Guillemot’s comments today indicate that may still be on the table. It’s possible, too, that Far Cry and Rainbow Six could join them; Guillemot said the company wants to accelerate the growth of its “flagship franchises,” as in plural.

Ubisoft Polishes Assassin’s Creed Shadows With New Parkour And Story Updates

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will soon receive two free updates that will improve its parkour mechanics and expand its story

We haven’t seen a new Far Cry or Rainbow Six game in a few years; Far Cry 6 was released in 2021, while the most recent Rainbow Six game is Rainbow Six Extraction, though Rainbow Six Siege continues to get annual updates.

To be fair, it’s possible that the plan for annual brands could mean more than releasing a brand-new game every year. Assassin’s Creed Mirage, released in 2023, just saw a new expansion release called Valley of Memory. 2021 saw two Far Cry releases, one of which was Far Cry 6 and the other was a VR game. Again, as previously stated, Rainbow Six Siege continues to see updates every year, so technically, you can make the argument that two of these three franchises are already annual brands.

Whether or not that’s what Yves Guillemot actually means remains to be seen. Either way, I hope you’re ready for more Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six content in the near future.
