8 Reasons You’re Dying Too Frequently in ARC Raiders (And How to Stop It)

Even though ARC Raiders is a great game for casual players, by no means is it considered an easy game. Not only do you have to fight brutal ARC enemies, you also have to worry about PvP players who are on the hunt to kill you and take all your loot. It can be really intimidating, and if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’ll die quite often.

However, there are ways to increase your chances of survival and make it to the extraction point. Following the tips laid out for you here will ensure that you die much less, improving your overall experience and enjoyment of the game. Dying sucks, and while it happens to even the best players, it can be really frustrating.

ARC Raiders: 10 Essential Beginner Tips

A detailed guide on how to survive in a dystopian future-Earth.

After playing over 100 hours of ARC Raiders and learning a lot along the way, I took a mental note of my behavior from my early hours in the game and compared it to how I perform in-game now. Everything you find below is what caused me to die so often when I first started out, and probably is the reason why you are dying so much also.

8 You’re Being Too Friendly

Not Everyone is Your Friend

When ARC Raiders came out, almost everyone was taking the pacifist route and teaming up with other teams to take down the ARC. However, now that the game has been out for awhile now, a ton of players have decided to engage in PvP. While there are still friendly players out there, it’s much rarer to encounter this type of person, at least from my personal experience.

One of the reasons you are dying too much in ARC Raiders is because you’re being too friendly to other players you come across. There are a lot of backstabbers and players who shoot on sight, so it’s essential that you’re prepared to fight whenever you hear or see a Raider nearby. I recommend shooting first to get the jump on an enemy player, rather than waiting to see if they’re friendly by using the “Don’t Shoot!” emote.

7 You’re Not Communicating With Teammates

Communication is Key

The most important aspect of ARC Raiders is communication, which is one of the main reasons the game is so popular. If you’re a player who likes to play on a team, then it’s necessary to communicate with them, or else your squad won’t have good synergy, and it will likely result in a failed extraction. Communicating can be done through a mic or through the fantastic ping system.

Make sure to ping the locations of ARC and Raiders to reduce the chance of the enemies getting a jump on you and your squadmates. Additionally, make sure to ping any location that you plan on visiting, so your teammates can cooperate and stick together in a trio. Three Raiders are better than one, and sticking together significantly increases your survival rate.

In a world of sand there must be something worth taking.

Lastly, if you get downed by an enemy, make sure to ping a safe location that is protected from gunfire and crawl your way to that location. This lets your teammates know where you’re headed, allowing them to meet you there and revive you.

6 You’re Getting Caught by Rocketeers

Don’t Underestimate These Arc Enemies

The most difficult enemy, outside of the Queen and Matriarch, is without a doubt the Rocketeer. Getting caught by one of these in the open will likely result in you getting downed as their rockets deal an insane amount of damage and are really difficult to dodge. A good chunk of my failed matches were because I wasn’t paying attention and landed in the sights of a Rocketeer, resulting in a chase match that I would lose 9 times out of 10.

To prevent this from happening, it’s essential to keep your head on a swivel and occasionally look into the sky when moving from one location to the next. If you see a Rocketeer in the sky, you want to find cover before it spots you, or run in the opposite direction of its location. If you do get caught by a Rocketeer, run to the nearest building immediately and take cover until its front light turns from red to blue. A blue light means it’s no longer looking for you.

5 You’re Not Taking Your Time

Stop Rushing Everything

A standard match in ARC Raiders lasts for 30 minutes, which is plenty of time to collect a ton of loot. For some reason, tons of players feel the need to sprint through buildings from drawer to drawer, gathering supplies as fast as possible. I understand that they’re trying to get to the loot before other teammates do, but there’s plenty to go around. It’s just not necessary, and you can go slower in these situations, which will help you keep your stamina high in case you’re ambushed by other players and need to run.

Toss a coin to your cyborg.

Additionally, sprinting everywhere with no careful thought could lead you running straight into the line of sight of a Rocketeer, Bastion, Bombadier, or other Raiders. Slow down a bit and take a peek around corners, observe the surrounding area, take a look off into the distance, and then make your move. Playing more carefully, instead of in a hectic manner, will increase your chances of survival and give you a better shot at making it to the extraction point.

4 You’re Not Going to Topside Fully Prepared

Craft Essentials Before Every Match

The crafting aspect of ARC Raiders can be tedious, especially if you lose an entire loadout and you need to recraft everything, but it’s essential to do so every time before going Topside if you want to have the best match possible. What I mean by this is you need to be fully prepared for the dangers that lie ahead. For example, make sure to have the essentials such as Shield Rechargers, Bandages, and Ammo.

In addition to the necessities, you want to make sure you have throwables, such as grenades and mines (more on that later), and of course, upgraded weapons. Heading to Topside fully equipped is a risky endeavor, since you risk the chance of losing it all, but it can significantly reduce your chances of getting knocked out.

If you’re afraid of bringing your best loot due to fear of losing it, think of it this way: all loot in ARC Raiders is never actually yours; it’s just borrowed. That mentality helped me overcome my fear of bringing my best loot to Topside, as I used to only run free loadouts.

3 You’re Not Crafting Mid-Match on Free Loadouts

One of the Best Skills in the Game

The best feature of ARC Raiders is that players can go into a match with a free loadout, which includes a couple of bandages, a weapon, a shield recharger, and occasionally a grenade. However, the free loadout is not enough to survive a full match, especially if you encounter other players looking to fight you in PvP. That’s why it’s essential to unlock the In-Round Crafting skill from the Survival Skill tree.

The In-Round Crafting skill allows you to craft essential items mid-match, such as more bandages, shield rechargers, etc. While you need to find the necessary materials to craft said items while in a round, the materials are easy to find and are very common. Going from 2 Bandages and 1 Shield Recharger to 5 Bandages and 5 Shield Rechargers on a free loadout can make a massive difference and help you survive the round.

2 You’re Not Utilizing Traps and Grenades

Use the Element of Surprise Against Other Players

For some odd reason, I have been paired with tons of teammates in ARC Raiders who simply don’t use any traps or grenades. This is mind-boggling to me as they are arguably the most important aspect of any loadout, as they can be used to get you out of tough circumstances that have been resulting in you getting knocked down. Fortunately, the game has tons of different options that can be used for both offensive and defensive scenarios.

For example, the Jolt Mine is a great tool that can help you loot in peace, as all you need to do is place it next to a closed door. If an enemy Raider comes running in, they will not only get stunned, but it will also warn you that danger is nearby. On the other hand, grenades can be tossed to deal damage to a whole group of Raiders inside of a room, and also force them to leave their cover, opening them up for you to land free shots on them. Not having traps or grenades in your Quick Use slot is a sure-fire way to die more often, so make sure to add them.

My favorite go-to is a Smoke Grenade, which is one of the best ways to escape from ARC and other players. The Smoke Grenades are really well done in this game, to the point where you literally can’t see anything in front of you, making it tough for enemies to track your location as you make a quick escape.

ARC Raiders: 6 Best Workshop Upgrades To Prioritize

Let’s workshop this a bit.

1 You’re Not Practicing PvP

Don’t Be Afraid to Fight Other Players

If you’re someone who only enjoys the PvE and looting aspect of ARC Raiders and you continue to die to other Raiders, then it’s important to start practicing against other players. You can do this by visiting PvP-heavy locations. Some examples include Medical Research in Stella Montis, the Launch Towers in Spaceport, and the Hydroponic Dome Complex in Dam Battlegrounds. More often than not, you will run into other Raiders at these locations.

The reason these locations are so popular is because they are surrounded by a red border on the map, indicating High Loot Value. I recommend selecting a free loadout and heading directly to these types of locations, with the primary purpose of seeking out other players to fight. Don’t worry about losing, which is why I recommended a free loadout, and just focus on landing shots and dealing as much damage as possible. Doing this will improve your skills, increasing your chances of survival.
