How Enlightenment and Talent Point Work in Where Winds Meet

As I’m sure we’re all aware of by now, Where Winds Meet is an absolutely incredible game, full to the brim with brilliant graphics, compelling stories and tense combat. Every time you open the game, it takes you on a new journey, a new experience.

But that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. In fact, for those just starting, it can seem like a complex maze of flashy interfaces and menus, each leading to another, and so on and so forth.

Stuck with that flashing red icon? Not for much longer.

Once you get used to it, it becomes a little simpler, but the whole Talent Point system could definitely do with a little more explanation. So let’s take a look at the skill tree today and see how best to max it out.

Enlightenment and Talent Points

Enlightenment points can be earned from completing many different activities around the world of Where Winds Meet. And once you accrue enough of these points, you’ll earn 1 Talent Point. Think of Enlightenment Points more simply as XP, and talent points as your skill tree.

You will need a total of 1500 points to gain 1 Talent Point. Luckily, this is a fixed number and stays the same throughout your playthrough.

At no point will you really need to grind points. The nodes you get from the Talent Tree can be useful, but they certainly aren’t game-breaking.

Oftentimes, you’ll be gaining Talent points without even realising it, but if you really want to target something in the tree, this process can be expedited somewhat.

There are a number of ways to gain points, some easier than others, but most are mainly story-based. As I mentioned previously, you’ll get a huge number of points simply by interacting with the people and stories that take place in the world.

Campaign Quests – Points Vary

This is one of the best ways to get points, and one of the simplest to follow. These quests can give you anywhere from 500–800 points for a quest that may not take too much time.

However, you shouldn’t rush through the main story without completing side content first. If you do, you may be locked out of certain activities and completing storylines with characters that may or may not disappear for good later on… No spoilers…

Jianghu Legacies – 100 Points

These are some of the most important quests to complete in the game, as they will provide you with some vital rewards, alongside Enlightenment Points.

There are 8 of these side-quests in each Qinghe, and 10 in Kaifeng, and they vary massively in length. You have short ones like Meridian Touch, which only take a few minutes, and other quests like Blind to the World, which will take you a good while longer. Either way, they unlock things like Mystic Skills and give you Exploration Points, too, which unlock even more rewards later on down the line.

Exploration Quests – Points vary

While you might think that Exploration Quests would be as simple as going somewhere new and exploring interesting places, this is not quite that. In fact, a lot of the main exploration quests involve Skill Theft.

Where Winds Meet: Tai Chi Guide

It’s bear throwing time!

These quests often involve you learning brand new martial arts to add to your arsenal. You might have to trek through a dungeon or open up a bunch of chests, but eventually you’ll have to play a minigame involving golden rings and copying someone’s skill.

However, other quests may involve you dealing with sick geese or even cooking a succulent meal!

Encounter Quests – 100 Points

These quests will often involve you finding a rather interesting character and following a short story through to completion. However, more often than not, these quests appear randomly on a timer, meaning that if you don’t complete the quest when it appears, you can’t go back to redo it.

You will know when you’ve got an encounter quest by the large golden “Encounter” that appears on the screen. While these are random, they give a good number of points for how short they are, compared to something like the legacy quests. Whenever they appear, it’s worth stopping what you’re doing to get it done.

Treasure Chests – 20 points

This one speaks for itself, really. If you ever see a little sparkle in a cave or in a run-down building, beeline over and crack open that case. While it might not seem like a lot of points, these stack up really quickly, especially when you’re in big dungeons.

What might have been a quest that only rewards you with 100 Enlightenment Points can quickly turn into 200-300. Plus, you’ll get some pretty nice rewards from the chest itself, too. What’s not to love?

Types of Talents

BasicTree

Once you’ve gotten a good number of Enlightenment Points, they will be automatically converted into Talent Points. These points can be used in 3 different trees. However, arguably the most important is the one that you’ll focus on from the get-go: your main skill tree.

While I may have called this a skill tree, to be frank, it’s more of a skill branch. There aren’t a lot of splintering paths here; it’s pretty linear. However, this tree holds a lot of important nodes that you’re going to want to unlock as soon as you can, as well as some smaller buffs that can be pretty handy.

Important small buffs include:

  • Increased Crit Chance
  • Increased Physical Defence
  • Increased Affinity Rate
  • Increased Max HP

Other larger and more consequential upgrades are as follows:

  • Wind Sense Upgrade
  • Elemental Imbuement
  • Mystic Arts Slots

Boss Tree – Level 16

This is another tree that revolves around bosses and gaining specific advantages against them. The more you kill bosses, found in dungeons or in the overworld with other players, the more points you will stack up. You can use these points on character buffs against certain bosses, like:

  • Increased Damage and Healing
  • Reduced Damage Taken
  • Increased chance of obtaining bonus gear

Arena Tree – Level 24

This next tree can be unlocked by competing against other players in 1v1 fights. While you’re probably not going to be doing much PvP when you start the game, for those who enjoy dominating others and climbing the ranks, this tree is very much for you.

By competing against others, you can unlock powerful buffs such as:

  • Low HP Protection
  • Light/Heavy Attack Enhancement
  • Increased Max HP
