FBC: Firebreak Major Patch Gets Delayed to 2026

It looks like another unexpected update has arrived recently from Remedy Entertainment, the studio best known for the Alan Wake and Control franchises.

This time, the surprise came in the form of a delay, and now it seems that players of FBC: Firebreak, Remedy’s first attempt at live-service multiplayer territory, will have to wait a bit longer for the game’s next major update.

Developers Share Unexpected Delay Among Good News

The FBC: Firebreak developer team recently shared a rundown of what’s coming to the game in a statement on Steam, which includes a long-requested feature: cross-platform voice chat, which is now officially live on all platforms.

But alongside the good news also came a bitter one: the game’s next major patch, titled Rogue Protocol, has been pushed back to early next year.

“While we’re excited to roll that out today, the Rogue Protocol Major Update, originally planned to launch alongside it, still needs a bit more time”, the studio wrote. “We’re now aiming to release Rogue Protocol in January 2026”.

According to Remedy’s statement, the update is taking longer than expected because it introduces a completely new game mode, and the team wants to ensure the experience is “polished, balanced, and worthy of your time”.

To soften the blow, they also shared fresh details about this new mode, called Endless Shift. As the name suggests, it is an endless-style mode where Firebreakers (meaning you and your friends) are dropped into sealed arenas and must survive increasingly difficult enemy waves. It will also have a slightly different upgrade structure and its own exclusive rewards.

“After each wave, you’ll collect Corruption, a strange residue left behind by defeated enemies. This energy can be spent between rounds to unlock powerful upgrades, weapons, and enhancements, letting you shape a completely new build every run”, the devs explained.

Oh, and they promise that the Endless Shift will even have a link back to the core game: “Some of the weirder corruptions you gain in the mode linger with you, meaning you can use them when playing the next Crisis from the Crisis Board, connecting the new game mode to the main game in a cool way”.

It is worth noting that the delay announcement comes shortly after Tero Virtala stepped down as CEO of Remedy – a move with no stated reason. However, many fans have speculated it may be related to Firebreak’s underwhelming performance.
