I think we can all agree that ARC Raiders is the moment right now in the multiplayer universe, since it has been pulling some seriously impressive numbers, like selling over 4 million copies so far and hitting more than 700,000 concurrent players across all platforms.
ARC Raiders Dev Has Mixed Feelings About Campers: “It Is A Tactic”
ARC Raiders is already experiencing camper issues, and its design director has a few things to say about it.
But it turns out we are not the only ones hopelessly addicted to Embark Studios’ brand-new extraction shooter, and even the creators of South Park (yeah, you read it right!) seem to have caught the Raiders fever.
A Surprising ARC Raiders Easter Egg on TV
If you watched the latest episode of South Park Season 28, which first aired on November 27, you probably were surprised to catch an unexpected gaming easter egg.
That’s because the episode, titled “Turkey Trot”, shows Tolkien Black playing ARC Raiders on Xbox (quite nonstop, I must add) across multiple scenes – representing, quite literally, every multiplayer player right now. You can check a few screenshots of the moment below:
Shortly after the episode aired, Ashley St. Germain, who leads marketing at Embark Studios, explained on LinkedIn how this unexpected collaboration came to life.
And apparently, it all happened at lightning speed: the creators of the satirical series reached out to the Swedish studio on Monday, asking to feature a reference to the game in the upcoming episode, and two days later, it was already airing on national TV.
“On Monday, South Park inquired if a character could play ARC Raiders in an upcoming episode, on Tuesday we provided footage, and on Wednesday we were in S28’s ‘Turkey Trot’ episode,” she explains on the LinkedIn post.
Oh, and Ashley didn’t miss the opportunity to also highlight how addicted the extraction shooter really is: “Like Tolkien, I guess a lot of us just can’t put down ARC Raiders.” Well, we can’t say that she’s not right!
If anything, this cameo certainly proves that ARC Raiders isn’t just having a moment in the gaming world, but it is also carving out its own space in mainstream pop culture – and at this pace, it doesn’t look like it is slowing down anytime soon!
