Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Bends The Elements This July

Avatar: The Last Airbender fans are about to throw down as their favourite characters this July, as the franchise’s 2D fighter, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, will release on July 2nd, according to Gematsu.

In a world where it costs $70 and even $80 to pick up a video game, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a much more welcomed low entry value, with the standard edition costing $29.99 on launch day. Those who pick up that edition will get to play around with its roster of 12 characters alongside its story mode, arcade mode, training mode, combo trials, character lessons, gallery mode, and online modes in ranked, casual, and lobbies options to choose from. You’ll be able to play as Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Kyoshi, Zuko, Azula, Ozai, Korra and Zaheer, plus the Avatar State versions of Aang and Korra.

Those who pre-order the game will recieve a samurai support character skin for Appa, exclusive character colors, and voting privilege for the game’s Year 1 Pass character pass, which the current roster is definitely heavier on the Avatar: The Last Airbender representation, than The Legend of Korra; maybe those votes can change the scales a bit. Speaking of which, the game’s character pass will come with the game’s $49.99 deluxe edition, which also comes with the standard edition of the game, its soundtrack, a digital art book, and unique HUDs.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game features rollback netcode and crossplay between platforms with each fighter utilizing over 900 hand-drawn animated frames, making it feel like the character designs were ripped right out of both animated shows into the 2D fighter.

“For us, this is about delivering a fighting game that feels right in the hands of players from day one. Avatar is a perfect fit for the genre—movement, mastery and expression are at its core. We’ve built a system focused on responsiveness, depth, and competitive play. With PM Studios as our partner, we’re excited to bring that experience to the fighting game community and fans around the world,” Gameplay Group founder and chief corporate officer Victor Lugo said in a press release.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is launching on July 2nd for PC, PS5, Xbox Seires X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A PS4 version was revealed in the game’s initial announcement, but there was no mention in the release date news hinting the last gen PlayStation port is no longer happening and instead a newly announced Nintendo Switch port has been seemingly announced in its place.
