Developed solo by Sach under the studio Pappy’s Pipe Dream, Echograph is an upcoming isometric survival horror game that blends classic Resident Evil-style exploration with Fatal Frame-inspired ghost combat.

The game follows Layla, the sole survivor of a horrifying family tragedy. Years later, she returns to her decaying family manor to uncover what really happened that night and why she was the only one left alive.

Right away, the setup leans heavily into themes of grief, trauma, and psychological horror, with clear inspiration from films like Hereditary alongside classic survival horror games from the PS1 and PS2 era.

Gameplay is split between two perspectives, which is probably the game’s most interesting idea. During exploration, Echograph uses an isometric viewpoint where you solve puzzles, search for resources, manage limited ammo and film, and slowly uncover the manor’s secrets.

The mansion itself looks packed with hidden details, locked paths, and environmental storytelling in true old-school survival horror fashion. But when ghosts appear, the game suddenly shifts into first-person.

That’s where the camera mechanic comes in. Similar to Fatal Frame, you use a camera to capture and damage spirits haunting the manor. However, Echograph adds its own twist: the closer enemies get before you take the shot, the more damage you deal. Basically, the game forces you to stand your ground and “face your fears” instead of panicking and creating distance.

Visually, the game leans into crunchy pixel art and PS1-style aesthetics with cinematic lighting and a grim atmosphere. The contrast between the retro visuals and the more modern horror presentation gives the whole thing a really unique identity.

The developer openly describes the game as something players should check out if they love Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, Signalis, or Silent Hill.

At the moment, Echograph doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s already available to wishlist on Steam, and there’s also an official website where players can sign up for future beta testing.
