Subnautica 2 starts you off with a Fabricator in your Lifepod, but it’s not the most useful piece of equipment in its current state. Don’t get me wrong, the Fabricator is probably the most useful item that you have access to in Subnautica 2 right now, but the one in your Lifepod isn’t a full Fabricator. It’s just a basic one.
Subnautica 2: How to Get Titanium Ingots
Gain the power to repair with Titanium Ingots.
If you haven’t already, you’ll quickly run into notices on your Lifepod’s Fabricator that a number of recipes can’t be crafted using it, as they require a fully functioning Fabricator instead. Unfortunately, Subnautica 2 doesn’t give you any hints as to how to make a Fabricator that’s fully functioning.
Build a Base
So, you can’t repair or update the Fabricator in your Lifepod to be fully functioning, at least not in the current version of the game. I’d love to see that change, but for now, you need to look for a place to build your habitat in the water in order to get that fully functioning Fabricator.
To get started, you just need to gather Titanium and Quartz from the area around your Lifepod. Titanium is used to craft the actual rooms for a habitat and basically every component, so you want to collect a decent amount of it. For Quartz, you won’t need as much right now. It’s just used for the Hatch, and then you’ll need to get a few more pieces when you’re ready to start filling the Habitat with equipment.
Build a Fabricator
When you have a structure that you can enter, then all you have to do is add a Fabricator to it with your Habitat Builder tool, which needs to be placed on a wall. To do this, you’ll need the following materials:
- 1 Titanium
- 1 Copper
- 1 Quartz
You’ll be able to find Copper in the area around your Lifepod, similar to Titanium and Quartz. I found Copper around underwater rock structures, such as within the caves and tunnels that you’ll also encounter in the area. Nodes that can be gathered by hand tend to be on the ground or above you if you’re in a tunnel-like area, so always check the ceiling.
Return to your Habitat and build the Fabricator, which you’ll now find gives you the option to craft items that were previously blocked out with the message that they needed a fully functioning Fabricator. That’s right, all you need to do to get one that functions fully is build your own, even though it looks exactly like the Fabricator in your Lifepod.
From here, you’ll be able to start crafting the items that you need to progress through the game, such as the Repair Tool and Sonic Resonator. Unlike the Fabricator, you’ll need to go around Habitats and wreckage to scan items in order to unlock the recipes for those items, but if you follow NOA’s instructors on where to go to pick up black boxes, you’ll end up with a decent sense of direction. You just need to make sure that you scan everything you can in the locations you visit in Subnautica 2.
