GTA 6 Lands Major Actor as Blizzard Reveals Release Dates for Anticipated Games

Stephen Root confirmed for GTA 6 amidst Blizzard's early release announcements for Diablo 5 and StarCraft.

The gaming industry received some noteworthy announcements over the weekend, with the biggest reveal coming from the Grand Theft Auto series. After months of speculation, GameSpot reports that actor Stephen Root has officially confirmed his participation in GTA 6. During his appearance at the BAFTA TV Tea Party, Root, known for his role in “Widow’s Bay,” acknowledged his involvement in the latest installment of Rockstar’s iconic franchise. Although details regarding his role in the game remain sparse, this confirmation marks the first official disclosure of casting for GTA 6.

Meanwhile, Eurogamer highlighted Blizzard’s announcements at BlizzCon concerning their long-term plans for Diablo 5 and a new StarCraft open-world shooter. With Diablo 5 set for release in 2029 and StarCraft scheduled for 2030, the announcement came years ahead of their planned releases. Blizzard has offered some clarity through Eurogamer, stating that the decision to reveal these dates early is intended to convey confidence in their major projects. This move is unusual for Blizzard and seems aimed at reassuring both fans and investors about the company’s roadmap.

Elsewhere, a fan project surrounding “The Last of Us Part 2” was halted following a cease-and-desist letter from Sony. The mod, developed by Speclizer, was intended to introduce a custom multiplayer mode, but plans ceased abruptly due to the legal intervention. This outcome serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between fan creativity and intellectual property rights.

In other gaming updates, “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” remake continues to generate excitement as Nintendo revealed a first look at the iconic Temple of Time. This unveiling follows a broader breakdown of what the remake will offer when it launches on November 5.

Finally, the tactical title “Wardogs” underwent scheduled maintenance, deploying patch 0.11 over the weekend to improve server browsing. Despite having peaked with over 425,000 concurrent players, Bulkhead, the game’s developer, acknowledges that the existing server browsing system has fallen short, promising improvements following downtime.
