Cities: Skylines to Relaunch on Switch 2 with Expanded Features

Amid several updates for popular titles, one of the standout pieces of news is the arrival of Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this month. Originally launching in 2018 in poor shape on the Switch, the game struggled with performance issues, much to the disappointment of players. According to NintendoLife, this new edition promises a comprehensive overhaul, improving visuals, performance, and controls. It expands the buildable tile limits from nine to 25 and introduces performance and quality options aiming for 60fps and 30fps respectively. A mouse mode implementation is also part of the enhancements, making city-building on the Switch 2 more intuitive and accessible.

Switch 2 Gains New Titles and Updates

In addition to the revamped edition of Cities: Skylines, a couple of other games are also making their way to Switch 2. Frog Sqwad, a cooperative puzzle-platformer supporting up to eight players, will release on October 28, as reported by Nintendo Everything. The game features interactive gameplay dynamics including swinging, jumping, and growing into a Megafrog. Meanwhile, Big Walk has announced its 1.6.0 update, bringing new settings like First Person Arm Movement along with a slate of improvements and bug fixes, as noted by Nintendo Everything.

Looking Beyond Nintendo: Handheld Rumors in Focus

Outside of direct Nintendo news, industry speculation continues regarding future handheld gaming. According to MyNintendoNews, there are rumors that both Sony and Microsoft may target the handheld gaming market with their next systems, the PlayStation 6 and Project Helix. Former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden has expressed skepticism over Sony’s historical difficulties in managing two platforms simultaneously. This could reflect attempts to challenge Nintendo’s dominance in the arena.

Miscellaneous Gaming Developments

In other Nintendo-centric news, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is gearing up for a significant update targeting its mechanics and ongoing content, as reported by MyNintendoNews. As part of its second-year content road map, this could reshape player experiences significantly. Additionally, new reviews for up-and-coming Switch titles like Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse are beginning to trickle in, setting the stage for more releases next week (via Nintendo Everything).

Overall, Switch players can look forward to both fresh content and revitalized versions of past favorites as developers continue to leverage the capabilities of the Switch 2.
