Epic Games announces native Linux support for its launcher and Fortnite, alongside an upgraded Easy Anti-Cheat.
The standout news this week centers on Epic Games as they launch a preview of their refreshed Epic Games Launcher, now with native Linux support. As reported by GamingOnLinux, this move signals Epic’s growing commitment to the Linux gaming community. The announcement is particularly enticing for Linux users who have long awaited official support for Fortnite. Besides the native support, Epic is also overhauling their Easy Anti-Cheat system, an essential step to ensure that the challenges posed by Linux’s diverse configurations are effectively managed, although Rock Paper Shotgun notes that Steam Deck support remains speculative for the present.
Indie Game Developments
In other gaming news, some notable indie titles are making waves. Mini Gladiators, a minimalist gladiator roguelite featuring engaging bullet-heaven combat, has released a demo. Meanwhile, Facepunch Studios is adapting their sandbox creation platform s&box to go free-to-play after a less-than-stellar performance, as reported by GamingOnLinux.
New Titles and Updates
- Studio Lifeforms’ new title Etre offers a unique take on cosmic exploration, described by Rock Paper Shotgun as an “eye-melting” action game reminiscent of Control.
- Over the Hill aims for a more relaxed off-roading experience compared to its predecessors like SnowRunner, offering a chill yet engaging drive through various rugged terrains.
- A new Minecraft update intensifies the Ice Caves with the introduction of the Brittle Ice block and adds a convenient music playlist, enriching the game’s exploratory and auditory experiences.
Certainly, the industry’s constant evolution is underscored by these developments, highlighting both the continuous push for platform inclusivity by major players like Epic and the rich variety provided by smaller studios. As always, these releases offer players fresh landscapes to explore, whether figuratively across new software platforms or literally within new game worlds.
