What Are Alpha Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

As you have explored the Wild Zones in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you may have noticed some rather aggressive red-eyed Pokémon lurking about who will attack you on sight.

These are Alpha Pokémon, and messing with them could be the last thing you do.

You may remember Alpha Pokémon from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, as they would appear on the game’s maps, and make things rather difficult for you if you get too close. Well, they are back in Legends: Z-A, and they are still a handful.

Let’s break down everything you need to know about Alpha Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

What Are Alpha Pokémon In Pokemon Legends Z-A?

Alpha Pokémon are the stronger, more aggressive variant of the normal version of the game’s creatures. Alphas will appear in Wild Zones, and can be easily spotted thanks to their larger size and glowing red eyes.

The aggressive nature of Alpha Pokémon means that if you are found by one, it will automatically start attacking you, leading you to quickly black out if you aren’t careful.

If you are having trouble fighting Alpha Pokémon, you can get one of the Giant Canari Plush Dolls from the Colorful Screw Exchange. One of the dolls will increase the number of hits you can take before blacking out, making it easier to stay conscious while fighting Alphas. It also helps during Rogue Mega fights.

Several characteristics set Alpha Pokémon apart from their normal variants. These include the following:

  • Alphas will spawn at 10–20 levels higher than other Pokémon in the Wild Zone.
  • Alpha Pokémon have a larger health bar, making them more difficult to take down.
  • Alpha Pokémon know at least one move that would normally be taught by TM.
  • Alphas have three random perfect IVs. This means that three IVs are set to 31.
  • Alphas have maximum HP EVs of 252.

Once you have caught an Alpha Pokémon, you will be able to tell it apart from its normal counterparts thanks to the red skull that appears in the status window.

When using an Alpha, you will notice that its size is larger, but its HP will return to normal levels, and its eyes will stop glowing red.

How To Catch Alpha Pokémon In Pokémon Legends Z-A

Alpha Pokémon are scattered around Lumiose City, but will most often appear in Wild Zones. For instance, Wild Zone 3 has a Litleo Alpha that spawns inside the building, or Wild Zone 14 typically has an Alpha Excadrill that spawns.

Some Alpha Pokémon will also appear on the rooftops, so it is important to search there whenever you can. We have found an Alpha Talonflame on the rooftops before.

Once you have located an Alpha Pokémon, you can capture it like a normal Pokémon using a Pokéball. However, you will want to make sure to lower its health, as it’s extremely difficult to capture an Alpha while it has full health.

You may also have success with sneaking up on an Alpha Pokémon, as this will increase your chances of capturing one as well.

emember to also start a battle using a Pokémon that knows moves that the Alpha Pokémon is weak to, as this will make fighting it easier.
