Up to this point in Dune: Awakening’s Lost Harvest DLC, I’ve tracked down the crashed harvester, located survivors, helped Lt. Drangh get the communication system back online, and became a secret agent for the Spice Warden himself—Kief Villari.
After planting listening devices in multiple Kirab hideouts, and searching imperial testing station #13 for Villari’s stolen package, we discovered the slavers had beat us to it, but they’ve left behind a strong clue as to where they are taking it.
In this walkthrough we’ll be completing Kief Villari’s Digging Deeper quest, which will require you to: locate the stolen goods, find your way through two imperial testing stations full of slavers, traps, and hidden entrances, and extract an illicit thinking machine that refers to you as a “meat-dipped calcium deposit”.
Completing this mission requires some serious grit, determination, and keen navigational skills. Luckily, my weathered Mentat character, Boris, is the best guide in all of Arrakis.
Let Boris Show You The Way
Your first stop in the Digging Deeper quest chain is Imperial Testing Station #117 pictured above, which is located North East/East of Imperial Testing Station #13 (the end of the Villari’s Prize contract).
Boris and his trusted companion Liliha fueled up their Ornithopters, reloaded their guns, and headed out to retrieve Villari’s stolen cargo once and for all.
To make your journey easier, track the Digging Deeper quest in the Journey tab and follow the markers on the compass at the top of your screen.
Imperial Testing Station #117
Once you get inside, you’ll need to locate a purple ID band to gain access to one of the pentashields, so take a right, when you come to the entrance seen above.
Beware: Boris senses danger ahead.
Purple ID Band Location
Slavers lurk in the shadows waiting to ambush you here; clear them out with ferocity and find the purple ID band sitting on a table in the middle of the room, seen in the picture above.
Villari’s Package Location
Thanks to the ID band you just picked up, you now have access to a pentashield located at the South end of the room.
At last! Villari’s stolen package!
Pick up the package sitting in the middle of the room (seen above) to unlock the next objective in Kief Villari’s Digging Deeper quest.
After finding the metal case he was so desperate to get his hands on, Villari called Boris to thank him personally for his efforts.
“Top marks, Spotter. Your instincts and follow-through are second-to-none. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re a seasoned operative.” – Kief Villari
Boris beamed with pride.
Imperial Testing Station #29
Now that you have the package, you need to finish the job Villari’s team failed to execute. To do that, you’ll need to find Imperial Testing Station #29 which is located in the Hagga Rift, and it’s a bit tricky to navigate, so pay close attention to your contract markers in the compass at the top of your screen.
Once you locate the Hagga Rift, you’ll need to descend into the depths and look for the entrance to the testing station pictured below.
Make your way inside and begin your search for the hidden lab.
Find The Entrance To The Hidden Lab
Once you get inside, you’ll be prompted to find the entrance to the hidden lab, and your first stop will be locating a Green ID Band.
Go down the first hallway on your right, followed by a left (both seen in the pictures above).
From here you’ll see a room with stairs leading down to a lower level. This is where you’ll find the Green ID Band (seen below).
Exit the room the same way you came in, and you’ll notice a pentashield across the hall you now have access too (seen below).
Now you’ll enter a series of rooms where you need to clear out the enemies completely to unlock the next pentashield (seen below).
Once you get to the pentashield that leads upstairs (seen in the third picture above), you’re getting very close to the hidden lab.
The Hidden Lab Entrance Location
Now that you’re upstairs, locate a Purple ID Band, and an entrance disguised as a bookcase (seen above). Pick up the ID band and interact with the bookcase to open it.
Beyond the sneaky entrance is a door that leads deep into the depths of the desert—and there’s some weird stuff going on down there.
The hidden entrance will lead through a very dark cave system, and you’ll eventually come to a door seen in the first picture below.
Find The Access Port
The door to the top-secret underground hidden lab that houses illicit machine learning experiments—looks exactly the way you imagined it.
Make your way down the winding staircase and pass through the giant sci-fi looking steel door seen above.
Restoring Power
Now that you’re in the hidden lab, your next step is to restore power. Just inside the steel door, is a power supply seen above, but it’s locked at first, so you’ll need to use your Cutteray to open it.
Unlock the power supply and restore the power. The other two power supplies you need to find will be locked behind steel doors you’ll need to cut through using your Cutteray.
After restoring power to the first sector, make your way through two sealed doors to find the second power unit, seen below.
Two down, one to go. After restoring power to the second power unit, you’ll need to cut through one final door(using your cutteray) to find the third power supply.
Once you cut through the third door (seen below), you’ll enter a library area; take a right and search for a doorway illuminated by an ominous red light (seen below).
Flip the switch on the last power supply and head to the West end of the room you just came from. You’ll notice a pentashield that has now granted you access, and behind it is the access port you’re searching for.
Insert The Sphere
You’ll be greeted by a giant red hologram called the Solido Projection, which soon transforms itself and begins voicing its hatred for humankind.
Insert the sphere into the dashboard seen above, and get ready for combat.
Defend The terminal
The thinking machine is resisting! You’re currently attempting to download the thinking machine onto a data storage device, but it doesn’t want to be captured, so it begins summoning waves of hologram enemies to defend itself.
These enemies will try to stop the download, so keep them away from the sphere.
Take The Sphere
Once you’ve survived the onslaught of enemies and the download is complete, remove the sphere from the dash.
Bring The Package To The Contact In Harko Village
After extracting the thinking machine, you need to deliver it to Kief Villari’s contact in Harko Village. Upon your arrival, you’ll notice the lime-green logo of the Mithra appears on your compass again.
Follow the marker until you locate Elara Tuek, seen in the pictures above.
After you give her the sphere, you’ll be prompted to return to Hagga Basin and wait for your next orders. As soon as you reach Hagga Basin you’ll be given the next step in the quest chain, which is to return to Harko Village and see Elara Tuek once more.
Return To Elara Tuek In Harko Village
Elara had her technologists examine the sphere you brought her, and they’ve found evidence of other secret labs, which Elara suspects may contain additional machine minds. This marks the end of the Digging Deeper quest, and the beginning of the Secrets of the Past quest.
As the mystery of illicit machine learning continues to unravel in the Lost Harvest DLC, Boris cements himself as one of the best secret agents Arrakis has ever seen.
