Nearly four years ago, Quantic Dream showcased a trailer for a new Star Wars game during The Game Awards.
Titled Star Wars Eclipse, it gave us a look at the High Republic era of Star Wars, complete with the visual prowess Quantic Dream is known for. Presumably, the game would follow in the footsteps of their past works and feature a strong narrative.
I say presumably because, since that reveal trailer, we haven’t heard much of anything about the game. Following its reveal, it was rumored to be released by 2026 or 2027 at the earliest. Now, that seems like a pipe dream.
Last year, the game’s development saw a shakeup when lead writer Adam Williams left Quantic Dream. With Star Wars Outlaws ultimately being a disappointment, people were looking for something else to scratch that Star Wars itch, though many have spent 2025 flocking to Star Wars Battlefront 2.
In a studio update, David Cage promises that development of Star Wars Eclipse is still progressing, but that’s not all the studio has up its sleeve.
Quantic Dream Quietly Announced A New Multiplayer Game
In bigger news, Cage also announced that Quantic Dream has become a multi-project studio, and what they’re working on may surprise you. Seriously; those are his words, not mine.
This new title may surprise our fans as it is very different from what we have done so far. But taking risks, challenging ourselves, exploring new ways of playing and telling stories, and attempting what seems impossible, has always been part of our DNA.
Quantic Dream is currently developing a competitive multiplayer game, “born from the same spirit of curiosity and creativity that has always defined [Quantic Dream].”
Cage adds that he’s aware of “How demanding it is to create something new. Earning the trust of players, standing out in such a competitive space, and introducing fresh concepts is incredibly challenging. And since we have no legacy in this genre, we know we have everything to prove — which is why your support and feedback will be essential. Together, we believe we can create something truly unique.”
It’s a lot of lofty expectations Cage is putting on his team to deliver something when it’s been nearly four years since we’ve seen anything of substance from the studio’s most anticipated project, and one that’s up their alley. With Quantic Dream publicly confirming what they’re working on, you’d like to think that this means we’ll see an official reveal in the near future, perhaps at this year’s Game Awards?
Quantic Dream’s most recent game, 2018’s Detroit: Become Human, has become a cult classic over the years, thanks to its branching narratives and impressive graphics for its time. You don’t often see a PS4-era video game look that good, but after watching my wife fall in love with the game last year, I was impressed with how well the game has held up over the years.
In fact, one thing that helped generate buzz in Star Wars Eclipse was its absolutely gorgeous appearance. Of course, that wasn’t indicative of actual gameplay, but if there’s one thing I can safely say about Quantic Dream, it’s that they’re capable of delivering the goods when it comes to graphics.
