HoYoverse looks to end the year with one more update as gacha developer has announced it launch Zenless Zone Zero’s 2.5 update “To Be Fuel for the Night” on December 30th and will act as the finale chapter to the game’s Waifei Peninsula arc, according to a press release. The upcoming content update will add the game’s newest Void Hunter, Ye Shunguang, and Krampus Compliance Authority faction’s Zhao, who will be a free character when the 2.5 update launches.
Ye Shunguang, who proxies first met back in the 2.3 update, is the game’s first dual-form Void Hunter. With the power of her unique attribute “Honed Edge,” Ye Shunguang is able to enter into her Enlightened Mind state, letting her unleash massive Honed Edge damage by activating her signature Ether Veil with an added effect applying a vulnerability effect to her enemies. Joining Ye Shunguang, is her Bangboo partner, Sprout who will throw volleys of flying swords at enemies during combat.
Zhao, on the other hand, is an Ice defense agent can quickly take down enemies with her massive weapon and is able to dish out the damage but support as well as her Ether Veil: Wellspring ability applies powerful buffs to your whole squad. Similar to Zenless Zone Zero 1.4, “To Be Fuel for the Night” is a culminating chapter that has its “Endgame” moments that see the return of agents from past campaigns helping proxies in the expanded Lemian Hollow and taking down the big bad of this arc.

Alongside the new characters coming on the eve before New Year’s Eve, Zenless Zone Zero is looking to celebrate the new year by giving proxies a new free “Nocturne of Light” outfit for Jane Doe and 1,000 polychromes, a late gift for the developer’s appreciation for players helping them win big at this year’s PlayStation Partner Awards plus other rewards. The upcoming update includes a “Filmgoer Thank-You Gift” event where players who buy Monochrome and other items can earn stubs. Players can exchange these stubs for an S-rank agent and their W-engine, which include 9 agents: Burnice, Jane Doe, Qingyi, Grace, Rina Koleda, income, Soldier 11, and Lycaon.
Pulling characters is changing a bit as HoYoverse is seemingly getting rid of the 50-50 chance rule of pulling characters in one limited banners only, meaning taking the half chance of either getting an update’s newest character or character you don’t want is no longer going to be a worry. The banner in question is for “Exclusive Rescreening” which will be featured in the second half, allowing proxies to choose their first pulled S-rank agent which they can choose from Alice, Soldier 0 – Anby, and Astra Yao which also applies to their W-engines in the new W-Engine banner “W-Engine Reverberation.” Any pity earned from these banners will be carried over to other banners, s
That’s not all, as HoYoverse has announced the upcoming update will add optimizations to help improve the feel of the game including quality of life improvements to help refine combat and progression, new multiplayer content is also being added in the limited-time event Joint Investigation: The Divine Maze. Proxies and their three agent squad are able to work together in “fast-paced cooperative challenges that reward coordination and tactical timing,” but outside of that the game as added “Proxy Outpost,” which sounds like the game’s version of guilds that proxies can either join or create their own allowing them to have discussions, and post or accept commissions.
Additionally, S-rank agents: Soldier 11, Grace, Soldier 0 – Anby, Ellen, and Burnice will be enhanced when the 2.5 update releases, including updated mechanics and performance boosts, with the same enhancement coming agents in the standard Stable Channel in future updates. Improvements to Shiyu Defense and Deadly Assault are coming, with Combat Simulation now letting proxies in the 2.5 update to get instant rewards when redeeming Ether batteries.
