Paralives includes sickness as part of its features, which makes sense as sickness is part of life, so it naturally belongs in a life sim too. As an Early Access game, you can assume that some features in Paralives are going to change between now and its full release. The current version includes viruses as the primary sickness your Paras will catch, although I think it would be interesting to see other types of infections added to create a health system with depth.
Paralives: How to Care for Babies and Toddlers
Keep your youngest Paras alive.
Viruses seem somewhat buggy right now due to how frequently Paras catch them at work, which can feel like a daily occurrence in some cases. Once one Para gets sick, their virus is going to spread rapidly through the entire household.
Virus Effects
Viruses can vary slightly, but it seems like the digestive system virus is the most common one in the current version of Paralives. Viruses often shorten some needs, which makes your Paras have to deal with those needs more frequently, and can even lead to your Paras ignoring needs entirely, which means your Paras don’t need to deal with those needs until they stop ignoring them. For the digestive virus, Paras have a shortened bathroom need and ignore their hunger.
Paralives: How to Have a Baby
Finding the option to have a baby is tricky in Paralives.
As you might expect, the discomfort of a virus also impacts your Paras’ moods. If your Paras are in too much discomfort or a bad mood overall, they won’t make progress when completing tasks that would give them skill points, such as repairing an item. Because of this, you want to avoid wasting time trying to increase skills while a Para is sick, as they likely won’t make progress due to their poor mood.
Treating Viruses
You currently have two options when your Paras catch a virus. You can wait and let the virus run its course, which you’re able to track through the virus status effect’s timer. They usually last for about 12 hours of in-game time, so it’s not that long of a wait for the virus to go away. However, waiting gives the virus time to spread through the rest of the household.
Your other choice is to visit the clinic or emergency room, both of which you can find in the town with their name on the front of the building, which makes it quite easy to spot. Take control of the sick Para, then select the clinic or emergency room and pick the option to get treatment. Your Para will head to the medical building, and the virus will be treated, which removes the status effect.
If you need a last-ditch choice for some reason, you can use cheats to get rid of any viruses by clearing status effects. To open the cheat commands, use Ctrl + F1 or Ctrl + Shift + C. If you’re running into the issue where your Paras are catching viruses too often, then I’d recommend using cheats to handle it for now and waiting for an update to address the viral infection rate. Even if you’re the type of player who avoids using cheats in life sims, the Early Access nature of Paralives makes it useful to at least know what cheats are available to you, because you might encounter a problem that can’t be solved normally right now.
