A new JRPG from Final Fantasy and Persona veterans is coming to PS5, highlighting a significant development for RPG fans.
It’s shaping up to be an interesting week for RPG enthusiasts and PlayStation fans at large. The most significant development comes from the announcement of ‘Eternal Anima’, a turn-based JRPG set to hit the PlayStation 5 next year. Boasting a development team led by industry veterans such as Katsuhisa Higuchi of the Final Fantasy series and Kazushige Nojima, who worked on the acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, this game is likely to appeal to fans of Japanese classics. Speculation was heightened after its initial tease as ‘Project Life is RPG’ back in 2023, but now fans can look forward to a confirmed release.
This week also features several new offerings from PlayStation Plus, with notable additions to its September game catalog. Users can explore titles such as ‘Date Everything!’, the quirky sandbox dating simulator by Sassy Chap Games, now free for Extra subscribers in the US and UK. Additionally, the PlayStation Plus lineup includes ‘RuneScape: Dragonwilds’, ‘WWE 2K26’, and ‘Ball x Pit’, all slated for release on September 15, complementing the diverse offerings available this month.
Fans of both RPGs and party games can try out a new demo on the PlayStation Store—’Prinny Party: Going Overboard!’ by Nippon Ichi Software is offering a sweet and spicy demo mode on PS5 that teases innovative gameplay modes ahead of its full release later this year.
In other exciting news, ‘No Man’s Sky’ marks its tenth anniversary with the ‘Cosmos’ update, live now on PS5. The update introduces a significant overhaul of space mechanics, incorporating asteroid belts, space hulks, and much more, offering existing players a refreshed experience.
On the visual novel front, fans can look forward to ‘Danganronpa 2×2′, an expanded remake of the beloved series’ second entry, confirmed for a January 2027 release. The news was accompanied by a new trailer showcasing its added ‘Slayhem mode’, promising an enriched experience.
Upcoming releases also include Koei Tecmo’s adaptation of the cherished light novel series ‘The Apothecary Diaries’, demonstrating the current trend of literary works transitioning into gaming experiences. Reportedly under development by Gust, the game will bring the series’ unique historical detective narrative to console soon.
