Rumours Circulate PS6 Hardware Completion and Specs

Reports suggest the PS6 hardware is complete with specs locked, pointing to a potential 2027 launch.

Today’s PlayStation briefing brings a mixture of rumours, game releases, studio updates, and software patches. One of the most significant stories involves the next generation of PlayStation hardware.

Rumoured Completion of PS6 Hardware

According to a report by Push Square, the PS6 hardware has allegedly completed its “tape-out” phase, meaning the final hardware design is ready for manufacturing. Speculations point towards a November 2027 release. The potential specifications suggest the device will be twice as powerful as the PS5 and may include a handheld model. However, it is expected to be less powerful but potentially more affordable than next-gen Xbox counterparts. These reports remain unconfirmed and should be taken cautiously until Sony officially announces the PS6.

Game Releases and Patches

Silent Hill: Townfall, an action-adventure game developed by Screen Burn Interactive, has launched on the PS5. Priced at $49.99 for the standard edition and $59.99 for the Deluxe Edition, it promises a return to horror for fans of the genre.

Meanwhile, Control Resonant has received a patch from Remedy Entertainment following player feedback. The update aims to ease the difficulty of the combat, addressing complaints about the challenging early gameplay experience.

VR and System Updates

In a setback for VR enthusiasts, the upcoming VR adaptation of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies will not be released on PSVR2. Announced for Meta’s VR platforms, this title is scheduled for a 2027 release and will not feature on Sony’s headset.

Additionally, the PlayStation Portal has received a significant system update (version 7.1.7), focusing on enhancing battery performance and health. Users can now manage their device’s charging to potentially extend long-term battery life.

Studio News

In studio news, Obsidian, the developers behind The Outer Worlds, remains distinct after being absorbed by Bethesda. As reported by Push Square, the studio will keep its leadership under Feargus Urquhart, suggesting continuity in their future projects despite the organisational changes.

Meanwhile, World’s Edge, known for Age of Empires on PS5, faces severe cutbacks. The studio has lost half its workforce amid broader Xbox layoffs, raising concerns over the franchise’s future on PlayStation.
