PC Shipments Drop 20% Amid AI-Driven Memory Crisis

Global PC shipments have taken a notable dip, influenced by memory and supply chain challenges driven by AI demand.

While it may be a quiet news day for new game releases or major updates, the PC gaming world is currently facing significant market shifts, primarily due to the sharp decline in global PC shipments. According to PC Gamer, IDC Research reports a 20.1% drop in PC shipments year-over-year for the third quarter of 2026. Shipments decreased from 78.5 million units in Q3 2025 to just 62.7 million units in the same period this year.

This decline is attributed to a “memory and supply chain crisis” driven by the increasing demand for AI server components, which shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to those who have been following industry trends. Amid the explosive growth of AI technology, resources have been diverted towards server demands, restricting the availability of components for consumer-grade PCs. This impact on the supply chain mirrors previous tech cycles where upstream demands dictate market availability downstream.

Meanwhile, the gaming world is witnessing regular updates. As reported by PCGamesN, “World of Warcraft Forever” is rolling towards its full launch with a new patch that increases the beta level cap to 30. Alongside the level cap increase, new dungeons like Excavation Site are being introduced. This ongoing refinement of WoW Forever keeps the player base engaged in anticipation of its November release, although changes bring mixed news for different classes and characters.

Elsewhere, PC Gamer reports that “Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry” and its sequel are being delisted from stores on October 23. It marks the end of an era for this notorious franchise, known for its comedic take on adult adventures. Both titles were surprisingly well-received and provided a nostalgic yet fresh take on the series, distinguishing themselves from previous poorly-reviewed entries.

On the content creation front, articles like PC Gamer’s speculation on character concepts for Valve’s “Deadlock” continue to spark community creativity and engagement. Such op-eds highlight gaps in a game’s current design and often act as unofficial feedback mechanisms, potentially influencing future updates or expansions.

Lastly, “GTA 6” continues to tease its arrival with new character confirmations, despite delays pushing the release into next year, as highlighted by PCGamesN. The numerous characters add depth to the anticipated storylines of protagonists Jason and Lucia, keeping fans invested in Rockstar’s latest narrative-driven sandbox.
