After what has turned out to be a long lesson in patience from Shanghai studio Astrolabe Games, we now know that Gurei slashes its way onto PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on July 23, 2026 — joining the previously announced PC Steam release, set for the same day.
Inspired by the classical themes of Japanese samurai cinema, Gurei pairs Kurosawa’s aesthetics with a punishing, choice-driven combat system.
Take on the challenges on offer however you see fit, pulling player character Rei deeper into the fracture between the human and spirit realms.
Defeat mystical entities of nature, the Kami, to obtain their power. Master those skills to make it your own story!
Gurei is governed by a dynamic difficulty and story system in which each enemy’s strength is determined by the player’s chosen path. This means that the very same Kami that fought at the very beginning could also be the final boss in a different route. Hope to never leave the one you struggle most to fight last!
