The Borderlands series has a massive supply of characters that Gearbox can pull from at any time, with many of them being fan favorites. With the release of Borderlands 4, we got more characters, and we ended up losing a lot of others.
After the events of Borderlands 3, the team split up in search of Lilith. Of course, now that she has been found, any number of them can come out of hiding to appear in a future DLC.
Every Borderlands Game, Ranked
The popular looter shooter franchise is great despite having some weak points.
The Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned DLC has already added Ellie to Borderlands 4, but there are plenty of other characters to choose from.
10 Sir Hammerlock
And Wainwright
At this point, Sir Hammerlock is a staple in the Borderlands franchise. He has made an appearance in Borderlands 2, The Pre-Sequel, and Borderlands 3.
It feels almost like a crime that he didn’t make an appearance in Borderlands 4, but we get it, he is living his best life with Wainwright Jakobs after the events of the Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC. It would still be nice to get an update on what is going on with him and his spouse.
Perhaps the pair could visit Kairos to check in on Lilith, or maybe they could stay at the Speakeasy. After all, they do love spending time in creepy locations.
9 Athena
Out of Retirement
You might remember Athena as a major character in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. After all, she was one of the four base game playable vault hunters, and the one that most players chose for her shield-throwing action skill.
At the end of The Pre-Sequel, Athena was captured by the Crimson Raiders and about to be executed, but was saved at the last minute by The Watcher. Since then, she has left the mercenary life behind to settle down with her girlfriend.
Since The Watcher made an appearance in Borderlands 4, it would be nice to see Athena mentioned again, especially since she played a big role on Elpis, but she currently resides on Pandora.
10 Most Difficult Bosses in Borderlands 4
Borderlands 4 has plenty of bosses and not all of them are easy to beat.
8 Fran
Business Consultant
I must admit, I wasn’t a big fan of the New Tales from the Borderlands game, but the characters did make a lasting impression, especially the Tediore Soldiers. One of the main characters of this story-based game was Fran, the angry frogurt shop owner.
While each of the characters in New Tales from the Borderlands has their day, Fran stands out as one of the better characters. With the gang ending the game by starting a corporate consulting business, it would be interesting to see them all make a return in a future Borderlands 4 DLC.
I could easily see their consulting business being involved with some type of vault shenanigans on Kairos now that the Timekeeper is out of the picture.
7 Dr. Zed
Who Needs Healing?
Unfortunately, Dr. Zed never made an appearance in Borderlands 3 outside his standard vending machines. While there was no reason given in-game for his absence, the voice actor was reportedly dealing with health issues during the time of development.
In Borderlands 4, Zed is still nowhere to be seen, with the character only being referenced by the vending machines around Kairos. This is odd since he has never been to Kairos, but a DLC could fix that.
Perhaps Zed is making an appearance to help Lilith since she is clearly lacking some vital nutrients after her extended stay in the Phase Dimension. It’s hard to tell, but it feels like a crime for him to have been gone for so long.
6 Mordecai
B-Team
The core team of the original Borderlands title consisted of Lilith, Mordecai, Brick, and Roland. In Borderlands 2, the team helped the vault hunters take down Handsome Jack. In Borderlands 3, Mordecai and Brick were placed on the B-team.
It is time for Mordecai to make a return. Of course, it wouldn’t be the same without Brick, but it feels strange for him to not be in the picture when Lilith is now out of the Phase Dimension.
I like to believe that Mordecai will come running to his friend’s aid. After all, they spent years trying to save Pandora. The least he could do is call and check up on her.
5 Salvador
Arms Race
Salvador is one of the original vault hunters in Borderlands 2 and a fan-favorite alongside Zero. While many of the characters from Borderlands 2 have played a role in the series since their inception, Salvador has only appeared as a commentator.
If you play the Designer’s Cut DLC for Borderlands 3, you can participate in Salvador and Axton’s Arms Race. This reality show is a bit gimmicky, but it works for them, and it would be nice to see it return in Borderlands 4.
What would be better, however, is to see Salvador in the flesh, fighting in an arena alongside the new vault hunters. Bring this gunzerker back into the action already.
Borderlands 4: Ordonite Processor Event Guide
Process those minerals for rewards.
4 Janey Springs
From Elpis to Kairos
I can’t mention the return of Athena without mentioning her girlfriend Janey Springs. If you played the Pre-Sequel, then odds are that you remember this black market seller.
As stated previously, Janey and Athena are living it up on Pandora. However, Elpis is Janey’s true home and the moon was teleported to Kairos at the end of Borderlands 3.
Thanks to these events, I could see Janey making an appearance in Borderlands 4. After all, there could have been some sort of distress beacon allowing Janey to find Elpis. She could then return to check in on the vault hunters, only to see that her home is now destroyed.
3 Patricia Tannis
Another Siren
There is no greater expert on Sirens than Patricia Tannis. She first appeared in the original Borderlands title, then made another appearance in Borderlands 2 and appeared once more in Borderlands 3.
In Borderlands 3, it was revealed that Angel bequeathed her Siren abilities to Tannis, granting Tannis the ability to use the Phaseshift ability. However, since Borderlands 3, Tannis has not been seen.
With Borderlands 4 having a big focus on Siren abilities and the Phase Dimension, I can picture a DLC focusing on exploring the Phase with Tannis leading the charge.
2 Mr. Torgue
Explosions!
Mr. Torgue is one of the best NPCs in the Borderlands series. He played a smaller role in the original Borderlands game, but reappeared in Borderlands 2 in both the main story and multiple DLCs. He even made an appearance in Borderlands 3 as the commentator for the Circle of Slaughter.
Unfortunately, his role in Borderlands 3 wasn’t very big, giving us all the more reason to want him to make a return in Borderlands 4. With the endgame slightly lacking, it would be great to see an endgame DLC adding the Circle of Slaughter or some other form of carnage featuring Mr. Torgue.
If we are lucky, we will get a smaller bounty pack DLC featuring this muscle head like we did in Borderlands 2 with the Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler.
1 Tiny Tina
More D&D?
There are few characters that have touched our hearts in the way that Tiny Tina has in the Borderlands series. We first met her in Borderlands 2, where she played a supportive role, but she quickly got her own DLC called Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.
Fans loved the character, and that DLC, so much that an entire game titled Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was created. While the game was a bit lackluster, Tina remained just as chaotic as ever.
Unfortunately, she didn’t make the cut when it came to Borderlands 4. Many requested that she become a playable vault hunter, and with there being one more slated for the future, it would be amazing to see her make a return as the role of the demolitionist. At the very least, it would be nice to see her and the rest of the B-team.
