Sony Santa Monica closed out today’s State of Play with 20 glorious and godly moments from God of War Laufey!
Taking over Norse Goddess Laufey (Faye), we learn that death was supposed to be her true end, as her husband and son — Kratos and Atreus — have been turned upside down. Fey wakes up in the Everywhen — a chaotic land where gods from across the worlds of mythology are locked in a tense struggle for power and control
As a mainline God of War title, we know what we want — an engaging world full of fast-paced, brutal combat — and God of War Laufey is certainly poised to deliver on that promise if today’s first look is to be trusted.
In their PlayStation Blog post, Sony Santa Monica states that they are “combining the movement and fluidity of the Greek era with the Norse era’s approach to world-building and close ties with characters — we’ve crafted an experience that has given our team incredible opportunities to take exciting creative swings, while staying true to the pillars of the God of War series.”

Faye is just as formidable as her husband, but finds herself forced to accept her death, and come to learn the answer to the question that plagued Odin in God of War Ragnarök — what happens to a god after they die?
After coming across conniving gods Sekhmet and Begtse, Faye comes across the curious cube Phranque (Jack Quaid) and ribbon Rue, who is tasked with protecting a sword the gods seem to fear. This is evidently where we will be starting from!
As the Golden Hand of the Jötnar, Faye has magical powers that made Odin himself tremble.
And with her new sword, along with Phranque and Rue, Faye is primed for combat to maximize lethality, power, and fluidity.
We’ve seen that she can literally separate souls from bodies, so expect things to get real.
