
PlayStation’s decision to discontinue the production of physical discs starting in January 2028 has been the subject of much discussion. Some details still need to be clarified, and we’ve just learned some new information today.
Stephen Totilo, a journalist at Game File, has published a message sent by Sony to its partners regarding the transition to an all-digital format. In this letter, the Japanese company reaffirmed that games released before the deadline can still be sold on discs. Only the “disc ordering process” will change.
Starting in 2028, PlayStation has confirmed to publishers that they will still be able to offer their new titles in stores in boxes containing download codes. Finally, games released before January 2028 will be eligible for a disc re-release even after the deadline has passed.
