In a post on LinkedIn, Chris Kramer, vice president of Off Base Productions and a former employee of Tencent and Capcom, stated that Microsoft has not suspended agreements to add games to Game Pass.

This whole story should be taken with a grain of salt.

XBOX is currently overhauling its strategy from top to bottom. The price of consoles, the closure of several studios, and a refocus on certain major franchises are all part of the plan. What’s more, Game Pass could also be affected by these changes.

At the First Playable event held in Italy, some independent developers have revealed that Microsoft has decided to freeze agreements regarding the addition of their games to Game Pass. The offers were reportedly suddenly withdrawn by the American company, without any explanation. Several contracts with third parties have also reportedly been suspended.

As a result, developers are pointing the finger at XBOX’s new leadership, which may have ordered these suspensions as part of a reorganization of the company’s business strategy.

According to Jez Corden of Windows Central, Microsoft may simply be revising its budgets for the end of its fiscal year. Asha Sharma’s goal is to put XBOX back on a growth trajectory. This will also involve budget cuts. Finally, the previous budget was likely based on projections that factored in the former $30 price of the Ultimate subscription. Since that price was lowered to $23 in April, investments must be adjusted accordingly.
