We are all going to leave September with a pretty packed backlog of new game releases. This congestion in the release schedule is, of course, caused by the launch of GTA VI on November 19.
While some players will have to sort through all these new releases, industry professionals have also been surprised by this extremely packed schedule. This is the case, for example, with Akihito Kadowaki, the producer of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The game is scheduled for release on September 25, 2026. It will therefore be competing against titles like Silent Hill: Townfall, Control Resonant, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and Dune: Awakening on consoles, all of which are set to arrive within a few days of one another.
Kadowaki spoke about this during an interview with VGC.
“We were pretty surprised. We probably expected a lot of titles would be in that window, but we were still surprised to see just how many games were there.”
He also highlighted several advantages that could help Onimusha: Way of the Sword stand out from the crowd.
“We think our lead character, Musashi, is a key selling point, alongside the satisfaction of the combat itself. The Issen mechanic, the parries, and all of those things come together to make a really unique, fresh experience, so we’re not worried.”
