UPDATE
Some confusion has arisen regarding this news. According to statements by Jason Schreier on Bluesky, a renowned journalist at Bloomberg, this change was made back in July 2025. Thus, Gustafsson was appointed director of European studios a year ago, overseeing not only Arkane Studios but also MachineGames.

This may be the first truly positive sign for the future of Arkane Studios. Rumored to be up for sale or closure, the French developer has appointed a new leader.
Indeed, Jerk Gustafsson has taken the reins of the Lyon-based studio. He replaces Leonard Bendel, who resigned on June 30, 2026. Gustafsson was the co-founder and director of MachineGames (Wolfenstein, Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle). It’s worth noting that both companies are owned by Bethesda Softworks.
Thus, this news could signal a strategic shift rather than the closure of Arkane. In his article on the subject, Jez Corden, a reporter at Windows Central, says he has heard that XBOX has no plans to cancel Marvel’s Blade.
Given the success of Indiana Jones, Jerk Gustafsson may have been appointed president of Arkane Studios to turn things around and complete production on their next game.
