Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, and Arkane Lyon are among the studios owned by Bethesda Softworks that have been affected by the recent Xbox restructuring. Layoffs have increased in recent hours due to a change in the company’s strategy.

Going forward, the American publisher will focus on its biggest franchises. Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM, and Wolfenstein will be at the heart of this new policy. Jill Braff, Bethesda’s president, sent an email to her teams explaining that this strategy reflects “the realities of our industry and our business, as well as our responsibility to ensure that Bethesda operates on a more stable footing.”

Braff also states that a change in direction is necessary to ensure the company’s success.

“We need to strengthen our business, return to sustainable growth, and ensure we can continue to invest in our franchises and for our players. I know that doesn’t make today any easier.

To best position Bethesda for future growth, we are shifting from a planning model focused primarily on each independent studio’s upcoming projects to an approach centered on our strongest franchises and on defining a content roadmap that best serves our players and Bethesda as a whole.

From there, we will mobilize the appropriate talent, technologies, and resources within the organization to bring these priorities to fruition.”

In addition to parting ways with Arkane Studios, Bethesda has significantly reduced the workforce at ZeniMax Online Studios. As a result, The Elder Scrolls Online has seen its content roadmap altered due to the layoffs. The future of the MMORPG is currently very uncertain.
