Following PlayStation’s announcement last week, it’s now XBOX’s turn to dominate the headlines. The American company has announced 3,200 layoffs that will take place in the coming weeks. Microsoft will also refocus on its biggest franchises.
In a video, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier outlined the details of this new strategy. He specifically noted that the brand will focus almost exclusively on AAA titles based on its major franchises. We’re obviously talking about Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Halo, DOOM, and Minecraft.
Schreier also added that Xbox is no longer interested in AA or indie games at all, which is precisely why the company dropped Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory, and Double Fine. However, Microsoft is expected to give new IPs a chance. The journalist mentioned the case of Elsewhere Entertainment, a Polish studio owned by Activision that is working on an RPG with PvE elements.
