Undead Labs is one of the studios that XBOX has decided to part ways with. Acquired by a company whose identity remains unknown, the American developer will continue working on State of Decay 3, which is still scheduled for release in 2027.
Now that it’s no longer part of Microsoft, the co-op post-apocalyptic action game is no longer required to be released on XBOX Game Pass. As the website Windows Central points out in one of its articles, the company may have let go of a future hit.
Currently, State of Decay 3 ranks 28th among the most wishlisted games on Steam. It’s well ahead of several XBOX blockbusters such as Gears of War: E-Day and Halo: Campaign Evolved. Only Fable ranks higher, at number 3. While wishlists don’t always translate into actual sales, the Undead Labs title still enjoys a level of popularity that’s far from negligible.
However, the rewards of any potential commercial success will no longer necessarily go to Microsoft, but to the group that acquired the studio and the game.
