PlayStation’s decision to stop releasing its single-player games on PC has drawn sharp criticism. This time, Shawn Layden, the former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, weighed in on the matter during an interview with PlayStation Inside.
For Layden, this new strategy is “a mistake” that will cut the brand off from users outside the PlayStation ecosystem.
“If someone waits 18 months for a game to come out on PC, we haven’t lost a sale to them—they weren’t going to buy the console anyway.
You’re simply monetizing someone who was completely outside your ecosystem up until that point. So I don’t see it as devaluing the brand; I see it as expanding the brand’s reach.”
Finally, Shawn Layden took a slight jab at the “analysts” who run rampant on social media.
“I love how everyone online is a marketing/business analyst and practically a part-time psychologist who understands the finer details of consumer spending and purchasing habits better than billion-dollar organizations.”
